With an overall capacity of 90 million passengers, Tokyo's second busiest airport, after Narita Tokyo Airport, has almost reached its limit. In 2018, the airport saw 87,098,683 passengers.
At Haneda there are three terminals: two domestic terminals (T1 and T2) and one international terminal (T3). Officially, the airport is located at Hanedakuko, Ota City, Tokyo 144-0041, Tel +81 3 5757 8111. Haneda Airport is about 15 km or 9.3 miles south of Tokyo Station, the city's central station. The coordinates for Haneda are 35º33'12”N 139º46'52”E.
The IATA code for Haneda is 'HND', the ICAO code is RJTT. Haneda occupies an elevated position of 6 metres or 21 feet above sea level and serves as a base for Japan Airlines (T1) and All Nippon Airways (T2). Other airlines using mostly the two domestic terminals include Air Do, Skymark Airlines, Solaseed Air and Star Flyer. On the international side the airport is a base for Singapore Airlines.
Destinations served by Haneda Tokyo Airport include Beijing, Honolulu, San Francisco, Seoul and Shanghai, but also many European destinations. There is a 3,000 metre (9,843) asphalt concrete runway, one that is 3,360 metres (11,024 ft) long and two that are 2,500 metres (8,202 ft) long.
Haneda Tokyo Airport first opened in 1931, the first flight leaving on 25th August 1931. In 1951 the country's flagship carrier Japan Airlines offered its first domestic operations from Tokyo Haneda Airport.
HND's Terminal 1 was completed in 1993, Terminal 2 opened in 2004 and Terminal 3 in 2010. It has 5 stories with a 2,300-car park linked to the international terminal. All three terminals offer passengers great facilities, such as banking, lost and found luggage, and free WiFi.
At Terminal 3 there is also Duty Free Shopping and a Marketplace with more than 40 restaurants and over 30 shops. The 4-star Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Haneda and Transit Hotel both offer passengers who don't want to stay overnight comfortable Refresh Rooms that can be rented by the hour (price in 2020: Yen 3,000 for the first hour, every subsequent hour is billed at Yen 2,000).
Terminal 1 is a 6-story building with restaurants, shopping areas and conference rooms, which lie in the center section of the terminal. There is also a large rooftop observation deck with an open-air rooftop cafe.
Terminal 2 also has 6 floors, offering an open-air restaurant, and the 378-room Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyo.
Terminals 1 and 2 are linked by an underground walkway that allows passengers to access the underground monorail station. Buses and trains run at 4 minute intervals to destinations in Tokyo and beyond. A free shuttle bus service connects all three terminals. This also runs every 4 minutes. Saver tickets into central Tokyo cost Yen 500 per person. Car rental companies are also present at T1 and T2.
From Haneda Tokyo Airport Wharf passengers have access to both cruises and water taxis that take them into Tokyo and Yokohama bays. A single ticket to Yokohama (90 mins trip) costs Yen 2,500 for adults and Yen 1,250 for children aged 3 to 11. Kids 0-2 go free.
